Pros

WAS a good company before bought out by Sycamore Partners. When the Belk’s were still in ownership none of the below ever happened nor would it have. Good location in Charlotte and nice employee discount. There are a lot of great people there aside from upper management team that is the root of the problem. But they’re all miserable because of the management team.

Cons

They have laid off a lot of people since the buy out. Most recently laid of 90 employees last week. Most were tenured employees with 10+ years of experience. The divide between ages of employees that were laid off and the ones kept is very obvious. Majority of upper management was NOT sympathetic at all to the employees that were let go. They even went so far as to charter a large private jet to get out of NYC when their flight was cancelled. They did not want to be inconvenienced so they used company funding to do that. No matter that they would be ending so many loyal employees careers just a week later. Benefits are so bad that prescription costs can break the bank. They get worse each year. Company sent out an email on Jan. 1st saying they wouldn’t ever pay people for their earned PTO anymore to prep for the layoffs. Because most of the people that they laid off didn’t take a lot of vacation or they also had a lot of it due to years of service.

Easy job horrible company

Pros

It’s not a complicated or hard job. Not one of the worst I’ve had. you get a discount of 20% and sometimes a double discount day. If you get credit cards you get an extra $3 per card.

Cons

I have been begging to receive more hours since the holiday season ended. Obviously they’re busier during the holiday season but after the second week or so of January I haven’t gotten over 20 hours since. Some weeks you work 12 hours and some weeks you could work 5 hours. And they still keep hiring people, when they refuse to give their current employees more hours. The company as a whole doesn’t care about you. You work holidays, there’s a ton of blackout days that you have to be there during the year. Management sucks at my store. They are super two faced and rude. If you’re someone who doesn’t have to pay bills this is fine for you but if you have financial responsibilities, RUN.

Pros

Working at Belk is an excellent job for a student. I worked Belk before I went to college and they put me back on the schedule when I came back home on breaks. It is a great way to earn extra money. The store's management team is superb. They truly care about their jobs and co-workers and it shows.

Cons

Unrealistic credit application goals from corporate Low pay Oftentimes only one sales associate working the entire department
