Poor management, corrupt, not confidential, unfair pay, strict attendance policy
Although the 20% off employee discount and occasional double discount days (20% off, plus an additional 20% off) are appealing, it does not make up for the severe lack of management at Belk of Mount Pleasant.
You'll be overworked, underpaid, and get the occasional $.05 or $.10 raise. They'll tell you it is just how retail is. That's a lie. Target and Wal-Mart pay their employees well over $9.50/hr starting. You will not be paid fairly.
Management makes up non-approved forms for you to sign and tells you that you HAVE to sign it or abide by their rules. HR is not confidential with ANYTHING you tell them. They will single people out and try to get them to quit by emotionally harassing them instead of firing them. They don't care about their employees' well-being and will dismiss any complaint that you have. Management will also gossip and freely tell other employees private reasons why other employees are off (i.e. "Oh, they had open heart surgery!", "She is having major issues with her husband.", "She's a little weird because of this medication she takes for anxiety. She lost her son in a car accident a while back.") THEY WILL TELL EVERYONE EVERYTHING.
They also have a new attendance policy now where you will get point against you if you are sick even WITH a doctor's note. After a certain number of points, you will be terminated immediately.
Do yourself a favor... work literally anywhere else. It's not worth it.
