Great learning opportunities - but still a commercial company

Pros

Strict hiring process so everyone who gets through is extremely talented. Learnt a lot from my colleagues. Lots of focus on growth and development. High expectations which can be hard at times but worth it. Smart senior management.

Cons

Commercial company disguised as Mother Theresa. Loves to preach about winning best workplace in Aus - its good but not THAT good. Teams are pretty segregated. Rarely hangout with anyone from other teams - sort of high school esque.

I felt a bit like if there was a robot that could have done my job that management would be happier. Management.

Once great, now eerie

Pros

Was a great place to work when I started, celebrated individualism and seemed to care about bettering employees lives.

Cons

The culture changed dramatically after they won Best Place to Work. Stopped requesting feedback from employees, stopped announcing staff departures - staff left to just figure out the colleague they're chasing has left or been terminated. You must fit the particular personality 'mould' if you want to have any progression. A lot of unqualified, untrained middle managers who do not know how to manage or support their staff. Stay long enough and you'll get made redundant, then they hire someone younger and cheaper than you. I've been watching it happen. What a way to be rewarded for your tenure. A noticeable difference in the way straight white men are treated vs. people of colour, women, LGBTQIA. A lower salary and tiny pay increases if you are the latter.
