Good product, negative environment

Pros

- A very good product - Always striving to stay ahead of the ed tech curve - Quick reactions to the market - A casual environment

Cons

- Negative environment with constant yelling, cursing, slamming doors, throwing things at employees, belittlement by senior management - the negative environment created by senior management trickles down to managers who take it out on those below them - there is little chance for advancement once in the company, instead they regularly hire new people at higher levels than those who have been there for a very long time - there is little chance to move to new positions or responsibility even when one expresses an interest directly in doing so - micromanagement is taken to the extreme - benefits are very poor in regards to expected contributions by employees, no bonuses, and poor 401k contributions from the employer - roles and who one reports to are not defined, nor are day to day expectations and responsibilities

Pros

It is a job, it will get you money, but when I was working at this place, there were very little positive and the work environment was absolutely trash. If you need a job for a year or two until you find something you love, then consider this position. The people around me were very kind until upper management disrupted the whole work day. The 5 star reviews that are blanket statements are definitely from HR or upper management trying to make the place look better. If someone really enjoyed working here, they would give it 3/4 at most...

Cons

The list is too long, my experience there was awful and draining on my mental health. I loved the people I worked with, but the toxicity from the top resonated within the whole building. The [not-CEO, but the other person] is just awful, my first experience with this person on my first day of the job was very unprofessional. When I did the job interview next to the main office, all I heard of screaming. People have adapted to say that yelling and screaming is just 'passion', but it's not - it's flat out awful and embarrassing. When the children take over, that is when the company will truly flourish.

Pros

There are some wonderful people there creating high quality instructional content, amidst the rubble of awful leadership, overwhelming workloads.

Cons

There are too many cons to note: demeaning leadership, condescending nature of communication, lack of thoughtful communication of any sort. The fact that there is a "human resources" department of any sort is laughable. Just an overall horrible place to be a part of. Note: BEC is known for erasing these reviews.
