Stay Away Toxic Management

Pros

Bentley is a great company to start your career out of college and gain experience. Also, a great company for consultants who are on contracts to experience Sales, IT, development, Project Management, etc... It also has it pluses around traveling and working with some good people. If you want work life balance. SOME managers get it and allow working from home and take time off.

Cons

Bentley management is Xenophobic especially around the headquarters location. If you are liked, you will be kept on a high pedestal and guidance will be provided for success. I you are not liked you will be treated like an outsider. When visiting there, I experienced complete ignorance from teams and management. Middle management is not qualified/fit for purpose Especially Project Delivery and Civil management who seemed to never have time to help visitors (employees) get involved and trained. Sharing all users’ issues went nowhere with Product Management (4 years later the product is still the same with the same problems given by Users directly) Sales team always asked for more from Product Management especially around what is in the pipeline and the knowledge was kept in secrecy. Found out later that half the product management staff hardly had any technical knowledge of their products but had a marketing background, which is perplexing. And that explained why they knew how to talk and convince anyone they know what they are talking about. If we are one company the information should be shared and not kept in just the team. It would have helped other teams like Sales explain and promote the products. When the training was requested it was given, but in 10-15 min chunks and from 5 different product managers who sounded like they were reading scripts and unsure of what their product can do. My experience with Bentley Systems was unpleasant after seeing how bad the management team lied to the users and to each other. If you want to be in a company that is toxic, and you must look over your shoulder to see who’s looking or wanting to degrade you as a person with good knowledge and experience. This is the place for you. Pay Increases in this company is peanuts. Promotion, if you are liked you will go places your knowledge has nothing to do with your promotion.

Toxic Workplace

Pros

You are able to work remotely

Cons

You are expected to know and sell over 400 products with no to little training. You are told you are the CEO of your business but at the same time you are micromanaged. Account managers are walking on egg shells, afraid their next move will cost them their job. Some days you may need to leave your ethics at the door.

Pros

Progressive tech company with decent vacation

Cons

Constant restructuring of the sales team makes it impossible to grow. Constant restructuring of commercial offerings makes your customers mad. Most of my time spent on calls was with disgruntled customers, trying to convince them to stick with Bentley. Management is so concerned with making themselves look good and making sure their numbers in the CRM are where their manager wants them to be that they’ll do anything, including making up phone calls that didn’t actually take place. The software is overpriced and the capabilities are not compelling enough to get users to move to the latest version, forcing customers to pay for software they don’t even use. Every 3 months approximately 3 - 10 people from the sales group get fired without any fair warning which puts the whole sales floor on edge and makes everyone want to leave for fear of job security. I can honestly say being let go from Bentley was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Good luck to anyone still surviving Bentley sales and anyone looking for new employment should look elsewhere.
