Pros

Great Colleagues, a nice cafeteria and a decent amount of holidays. I like the flexibility of being able to work from home a day or 2 a week.

Cons

Broken processes and badly implemented systems make for more work than one should have to do, yet it seems management does not acknowledge this. They also seem to think it is OK to invoice our clients for this extra effort; yet the process is required so that they can get a report. If someone would just do an ROI on what it costs including time spent by the PM’s, they might not want all those reports. Micromanagement is prevalent. All hires and even internal moves go through a million channels all the way to the CEO. Travel requests go all the way to senior VP’s, even for a single hotel night. One would think that a PM should be final approver for a project, but not at Bentley. In the same vein folks are not always held accountable for their failures. Moral is down due to eroding salaries. Few and small raises are more than offset but benefit reductions.

Pros

There are some very good technical people in the company (including the founder). There is a collaborative atmosphere in smaller groups that want to make (and sell) great software. The company wants to be a good employer and corporate citizen, so it makes some efforts in that direction.

Cons

There is a lot of deadwood in upper management. These people have their jobs due to longevity (as the company has grown), and due to being risk averse and politically astute (yes-men rule!). The deadwood's influences permeate the company.

Pros

Easy salary just do what you're told.

Cons

You can be fired for using the words client or customer. All customers are users and will be labeled as such. Look at Bentley posts on linked in they call their customers users. This is an absolute reflection of how they treat their customers. In addition to that they are very much an old school ivory tower company. Directors aren't welcome to bring ideas forward or to strategy meetings. It's hell on earth if you are innovative and competent because nobody at Bently wants to hear your ideas. Stay in your lane and do what you're told. Do that you'll have a long and easy career there.

While we understand that individual experiences can vary, this review does not reflect the culture or practices experienced by the vast majority of our colleagues, particularly within the referenced location and department. We want to clarify that no one is - or has ever been - terminated for using terms like “client” or “customer.” We use the term “user” to reflect the diversity of professionals who engage with our software globally. We value contributions at all levels and are proud of our ongoing focus on innovation, collaboration, and customer success.
