Pros

I will share the pros from before 2021 because it’s gone so far downhill since then - great community, lots of encouragement to put in your two cents, senior leaders cared about the employees below them, tons of advancement opportunities, ability to make and improve processes. Again, that’s all gone now, but it was great while it lasted.

Cons

I was at Best Egg since the very beginning. I had stellar reviews every year and then out of the blue, I was told I was being let go. The company was already “running lean,” and I knew that my departure would overwhelm my team. It did and that’s one of the things that hurt the most. The other thing that hurt was the sheer lack of loyalty (with no reason given) after helping Best Egg become what it is now.

Thank you for taking the time to enter your feedback, we acknowledge that your experience was not easy nor expected. While we included a severance package to account for your many years of service, the emotional toll in job transition can be challenging and we are wishing you many future successes. Our attrition numbers are much lower than industry standard. We appreciate your comments in advice to Management and highly value the trust employees have with us as well, we will continue to seek and protect that trust as much as possible.

Pros

Decent enough work/life balance Good people

Cons

In the weeds, team members were good people and things functioned well enough in my experience but there was just a severe, inexcusable lack of transparency and poor decision-making up top that ended up biting a lot of us. I can’t count how many times I was told to just “keep my head down” when anything concerning happened. CEO inexplicably leaves the company, we’re told everything’s fine, no one’s job is at stake. We’re (barely) told they’re cutting the marketing budget, and again, everything’s fine, no one’s job is at stake. They completely flip around and merge teams, and once more, everything is fine, no one’s job is at stake. Then within just weeks of these reassurances, they lay off a whole bunch of people. And of course, they tell you none of these things are related to each other but it’s not hard to put two and two together. Intentional or not, they messed with people’s lives and didn’t give us a fair shot at looking out for ourselves.

Pros

Great benefits Ability to WFH

Cons

The company used to be incredible but has been in a downwards spiral for about a year now. They will say one thing and do the other, make your life miserable if you do not do as exactly as they say or if you ask any questions, and micromanage you to death. Open door policy means nothing all the way up the chain to HR. They used to care about their employees but all they care about now is profits and how their numbers look. While the pay may be enticing, it is not worth the toll on your mental health. There is very little room for advancement as they constantly hire and then fill any open positions or promote people and then let them go shortly later. While their culture looks good on paper, it is not actively practiced. There are many double standards and no transparency as well as constant lack of communication. The rebuttals are half hearted and apathetic which tells you all you need to know. They constantly have issues with vacation times being off due to lack communication between systems but will hold that against you, either taking away vacation days earned or making you work the additional hours before end of year (with little notice). If you are not a “yes” man, you will not survive here. They will also withhold bonuses you earned from the year before as they until 3 months into the new year, if the employees make it that long. Otherwise they keep the bonus even though if was due to the work you performed last year. I imagine they will push an RTO to get the rest of the people they need gone to leave.
