Pros

Mission-Driven and Impactful: Working at BetterUp is incredibly fulfilling. The product's impact on my own life is so noticeable and distinct, and I'm proud to contribute to a mission of giving this to more people. Everyone here believes in what we are doing, and it is infectious. Exceptional Leadership and Development: The leadership here is genuinely invested in your growth. They take a coaching approach, providing challenging projects and believing in your success. I've experienced significant professional development in my 3.5 years, and I feel continually supported and pushed to excel. They truly give you chances to grow, which is very exciting and fulfilling. Talented and Collaborative Colleagues: The team at BetterUp is exceptional. I'm consistently impressed by the caliber of my colleagues, and the collaborative environment is unique. It's rare to find a workplace where you genuinely enjoy and respect everyone you work with. My friends are always impressed by how much I like my colleagues. Culture of Ownership and Action: BetterUp fosters a culture where everyone is an owner and a doer. This means you're not just managing but actively contributing. This level of engagement is both challenging and rewarding. Strategic and Innovative Thinking: BetterUp is focused on innovation and Blue Ocean thinking. We are encouraged to find unique solutions and think outside the box, which keeps the work exciting and impactful.

Cons

Demands High Ownership and Action: The 'owner and doer' culture, while a 'pro' in my experience, means you need to be prepared to wear multiple hats. If you prefer a role with clearly defined boundaries, this might be a significant adjustment. It is a fast-paced environment where everyone is expected to contribute however necessary to achieve our important mission. Remote-First Requires Travel: BetterUp's remote-first culture offers flexibility, and it requires travel to maintain strong team connections. While I personally enjoy the travel and the in-office hub options, it's something to consider if you prefer a strictly non-travel role.

Pros

BetterUp is one of those rare companies where you get to do work that’s both good for business and good for people. We drive real, measurable outcomes for our customers while meaningfully improving the lives of our members. That combination creates deep, trusted partnerships — many of my clients have become great friends. You’ll be surrounded by incredibly smart, mission-driven people in a fast-moving environment. The energy is contagious. And with the rise of AI, we’re unlocking entirely new ways to scale impact — driving results and changing lives on a level that was unimaginable just a few years ago. It’s thrilling.

Cons

But here’s the flip side: this place moves fast — really fast. What the job looks like today is nothing like what it looked like five years ago. You have to adapt constantly. The work is intense, and the travel can be a lot. One of the hardest parts is watching people who were amazing at an earlier stage of the company no longer fit the needs of where we are today. They’re still awesome humans — it’s just a different company now. Bottom line: if you’re up for the challenge, and want to do meaningful work with incredible people, there’s no better place to be.

Pros

Growing and learning is a critical part of my day job, not just with my coaches, but also as an integral part of how the work gets done. This organization experiments boldly, tries new things a lot, and values the learning as much as (sometimes more than) the result.

Cons

There is a lot going on all the time, so it can feel chaotic if you don't block intentional time to pause, reflect, evaluate priorities, align with colleagues, and then go fast. I used to think doing those things meant work slowed down, but really this can be done very quickly, without losing momentum, if they are intentional and done often. If you don't do it though you can end up swirling around in all the things for a ton of hours.
