      Where people dry up and shrivel

      Pros

      Some incredible team members who are insanely smart and great to work with.

      Cons

      I am not saying this figuratively. Literally every person at BetterUp hates their job. No one hits quota and Alexi and his attack dog Eddie blame the people. Everyone is trying so hard, and the amount of whiplash is ruining lives. Seriously ruining lives. The company valuation is massively upside down and there is no rainbow let alone a pot of gold at the end of it for anyone but Alexi and Eddie. Both took chips off the table in the last raise so they are good. Everyone else? Working for their base. This place is pure unmitigated misery.

      Some positive structural concepts tried.

      Cons

      Clique based , impossible to change. No research .poor staff support . Cookie cutter structures. Antiquated. If you want new and improved environment, stay away, this business model is not mental health.

      Amazing Mission that needs to find its way

      -Amazing mission where I was literally able to witness lives being impacted -Smartest and most empathetic colleagues I ever had the pleasure to work with -As startups go, really tries to be intentional about investing in employee well-being

      Cons

      -Prioritizing product initiatives where we invested a lot in some larger plays while some very basic things with our core product was broken -In response to the economic downturn, leadership implemented some questionable reorgs putting many ICs in roles where they were not set up for success -after many years of struggling to support SMB/MM accounts, finally built some momentum towards fixing until it was derailed by latest layoff.
