Pros

Coming to BetterUp has awakened a passion for work in a way that I did not think possible. Not only am I surrounded by bright, passionate, driven people but I get to spend each day striving to make an impact on the lives of working professionals.

Cons

One downside of mission-driven, purposeful work environment is that it can be difficult to "turn off" at the end of the day. The culture is high performing and I find myself thinking and dreaming about BetterUp on my off hours.

Pros

BetterUp has a rare combination of compassion and focus. It has a really talented and passionate group of people. Product team is distributed which is a great opportunity for those of us who don't live in Silicon Valley. It also has really meaningful perks: coaching for you and a partner / friend, great PTO policy, and good benefits for a startup.

Cons

Intense culture means that you'll feel like the stakes are high.

Pros

-Lowest ego organization I’ve ever been a part of -The commitment to personal growth is real at all levels of the company, and is reflected in tangible practices like Inner Work Days and coaching culture -Leadership, including the CEO, speaks openly about failures and learnings -High emotional intelligence across the organization -Many of the most trusted and respected leaders in the company are women -A culture of high expectations and high performance that stretches your thinking and sharpens your skill set

Cons

This company may not be the right fit if.. -You prefer decision-making that leans heavily on formal expertise rather than context and shared ownership -You need black-and-white clarity to feel grounded and don’t genuinely enjoy navigating ambiguity -Your primary motivation for joining a late-stage startup is to ride the IPO wave -You’re more comfortable focusing on independent work than investing in relationship-building as part of how things get done -You’re seeking predictability and stability over flexibility and experimentation -You thrive most in environments where structure and process drive accountability, rather than personal ownership None of these traits are wrong. They just might clash with BetterUp’s operating style and cultural expectations.
