New CEO Bad for Business

Pros

The individual team members/professionals are great to work with and really want to Build a World of Difference.

Cons

The new CEO is negatively impacting the culture. After three successful years working remotely (the most profitable years in company history), and promises made by him in his first Town Hall to support the “Working in New Ways” initiative that was launched during Covid, he is now forcing people back to the office three days a week. This was a policy he rolled out on his own, without any input from employee owners or even the Presidents of our Divisions. He took away our voice and created a toxic work environment.

Pros

Stock contribution, decent pay, 9/80 schedule (at least we still have a little bit of flexibility - for now anyway, until Mario takes that away, too)

Cons

Where do I start? The downhill slide all started when we got a new CEO Mario Azar. As you'll read in other reviews, he forced everyone back into the office (after we had been promised full-time remote forever by the previous CEO after three record-breaking profitable years, and Mario had promised not to change that WFH benefit!); slapped bluetooth trackers on all of us to ensure "compliance" with his RTO policy; micromanages everyone to death and has literally chased off or gotten rid of pretty much our entire leadership team from the days before he was promoted to CEO. He talks constantly about "psychological safety" but makes everyone feel anything but safe; he babbles on about "culture" yet has managed to destroy what was once a flourishing, positive corporate culture in a growing company. Speaking of growth, we've added a lot of people, but many others are leaving in droves... and the cherry on top is that our performance is down somewhat the last couple of quarters and now, our safety record has taken a blow. DEI is no longer a focus that I can tell. What next?

Thank you for taking time to share your personal thoughts. Although we're glad to hear you're enjoying our 9/80 schedule, your compensation, and our ESOP, the rest of your feedback, especially as a current employee-owner in a management position, well, it's unfortunate to hear. We're sorry you feel this way and that your experiences with us have been less than positive. We understand the move to our hybrid work model (almost two years ago now) was challenging for some professionals. Again though, it's been nearly two years of time to acclimate. Black & Veatch believes it was important to provide its professionals with flexibility while also enabling the benefits of in-person office collaboration. The Bluetooth access control system enhancements are crucial to the safety of our professionals and ensure that first responders have critical safety information during an emergency--emergencies that are now commonplace on the news daily. The safety and health of employees, clients, and contractors is a Black & Veatch core value, and we have been working on these upgrades as part of our technology roadmap for several years. DEI is still a priority at BV--nothing has changed regarding our commitment to it. Again, we appreciate you sharing your personal opinions, and we’ll be sure to share your sentiments.

Pros

Work with good people and decent benefits

Cons

New CEO is on a warpath against working remote. Company lost a lot of people due to the forced RTO. As soon as new CEO started,, the first thing he did was to get rid of Remote or make it as hard as possible to get it.
