Pros

A 9/80 work schedule for most positions. Get every other Friday off for working 9 hours a day instead of 8. The people doing the real work at the company, the engineering designers, drafters, project leads, etc. are for the most part the best thing about the company. I've met many great people at the company.

Cons

Management doesn't know what they're doing. New CEO is terrible. They're doing away with the Working In New Ways policy that allowed employees to work from the office full time, have a flexible schedule to work a few days a week and a few days at home, or works mostly remote and coming into the office occasionally as needed. This is no longer the option and everyone will be required to work at least 3 days in the office. They still advertise that we have "remote" working options on job listing websites and trick people into applying. I've enjoyed working for the company over the years I've been here but that has all changed today with their announcement of removing remote work. Upper management does not care about the opinion of their employees. If you work here, be prepared to be unappreciated, under valued and not have your voice heard.

We are actively monitoring feedback from employees and will continue to share what we are hearing with the leadership team. There is a team set up to receive questions and capture recommendations as they consider new ways the company can best support employees during this transition. If you haven’t already, please reach out to your leaders or visit our Hybrid Workplace hub to make sure your ideas are heard.

Disappointed in the Company More Every Day.

Pros

I chose to stay at Black and Veatch out of college because I love the people I work with. They are open to answering questions and seeing that I succeed in my career. Benefits are nice as well with a good amount of vacation, sick time, and floating holidays.

Cons

RTO has severely changed how I feel about BV and their values. Now that the company is wasting time and money on tracking who is/isn't coming into the office, people are coming in not because they want to, but because they fear they will lose their jobs. We have lost several amazing assets to the company due to RTO and a lack of understanding. HR has been backing employees who have medical issues that prevent them from coming in into a corner, forcing them to quit or come into the office -regardless of the fact that they are completely fulfilling their job requirements. There is a complete lack of trust between leadership and employees, which says a lot since this is an EMPLOYEE owned company. Leadership uses surveys to place a false sense of voice to their employees and uses our opinions to skew results to what they want to see. In the most recent townhall, Mario told us to "forget RTO" and to "move on". The company's culture has gone from something I once valued, to completely falling apart.

Thank you for taking the time to share your personal thoughts. We went to a hybrid model more than a year ago, and it reinforced the fabric and culture of Black & Veatch now and for future generations. Access control system upgrades have been part of our plans for the past several years. The safety and health of employees, clients, and contractors is a Black & Veatch core value, and this enhancement will provide first responders with critical safety information in the event of an emergency. Thank you again for your feedback.

New CEO Reneges on Working in New Ways, Hates Work/life Balance

Pros

Working here the past year was a great experience, I loved the flexibility and autonomy working from home gave me to accomplish my job. I felt trusted and valued, and now that is sadly all thrown away.

Cons

I was hired a year ago with the promise of being a remote employee, and the newly-minted CEO is now instituting a major reduction of employee quality of life, including the former Working in New Ways policy that allows flexibility, freedom, and autonomy. The new policy will soon require everyone to report to their closest office within 75 miles, which is much too far to drive, especially for those driving through densely populated cities with horrific traffic. I feel lied to and cheated out of what could have been a long career here, now I have to find a way to spin a year-long stint on my resume to prospective employers who actually value their workforce.
