Pros

- Caliber of people and diversity of backgrounds - Challenging, interesting job opportunities offering great deal of experience/learning opportunity - Strong reputation, good for CV and career advancement - Work/Life balance is better than at Investment Bank - Good culture and working climate

Cons

- Bureaucratic, inflexible structures inside company - Poor monetary reward for individual accomplishments and top performance, e.g. below industry-average pay and limited bonus potential compared to Investment Banking or Hedge Funds - not in line with reputation and top performing employees, most uneven bonus distribution (anything below Managing Director reward is peanuts plus warm handshake) - Systems are entirely in-house (no transfer of knowledge) and inefficient

Pros

Access to any type of research you can imagine. Wall Street firm with a great reputation. Name recognition across the street

Cons

Office politics, weak middle management, confusing re-orgs are frequent, can feel too big, lack of sense that performance is rewarded (more about politics)

Pros

Nothing positive to say at all

Cons

Highly political organization. You will only receive a promotion if you are liked by seniors. Organization plays favorites. Promotions have nothing to do with performance. Decisions are only made by executives and leaders instill fear in employees. Inexperienced Directors and Managing Directors. New York office is terrible culture. San Francisco culture is much better. A lot of great ideas came from BGI and were implemented at BlackRock. BlackRock never valued diversity and inclusion and committees such as the OUT network and WIN. It never existed or were embraced before BGI merger.
