Pros

They have an open-minded more liberal approach to employee operations compared to some competitors

Cons

Any company is only as good as the department you work in. I worked for some great managers, but they were under someone who I felt was not good at all. My great managers moved on and were replaced by someone who had actually nearly been fired from his old position, but escaped it by getting hired in this job instead through sheer nepotism. He had no experience in the position at all but was friends with the managers who wanted to save his job. I feel this is reprehensible behavior and another example of how it only matters who you know. This manager was naturally horrible at the job as he didn't understand any of it and the department seemed to be going quickly downhill without any vision. I don't know what happen as he immediately made it clear I wasn't welcome and quickly pushed me out. I do not expect this is the norm at BlackRock, but it all depends on where you work.

Blackrock Has Killed FutureAdvisor

Pros

It used to be an awesome place to work.

Cons

At this point, almost everything is a con. There is a huge lack of transparency both in FutureAdvisor leadership and in Blackrock leadership. Any dissent is not tolerated. People are leaving FutureAdvisor in droves. It's full "abandon ship" there. FutureAdvisor has moved within Blackrock's main office now, and the lines have been so blurred, the culture of FutureAdvisor has been completely destroyed. The worst part is that management doesn't even realize the damage they have done and continue to do to their employees. Managers only care about getting the next product out, at whatever cost. Morale has been gone for better part of a year. It seems like at this point management is doing thing to encourage people to leave.

Pros

Good benefits from parent company. There are still some awesome people left. Still some interesting problems to solve (although some work becomes repetitive)

Cons

Executive decisions are secretive and black-boxed from employees. However, most of this information is known among employees. There is a loss of trust. The business makes excuses for turnover, but should not deny having many of their high performers leave within a short period of time (even for a small company). Another comment mentioned that FutureAdvisor has "too much process"... while in reality, the organization as a whole is releasing unfinished/rushed work on a regular basis. This is due to short-sighted, aggressive deadlines. Business prides itself on work-life balance, but instead awards/spotlights employees who work ridiculous hours due to executive failures.
