Pros

It's the cornerstone of our business, and our great leaders have built a phenomenal team culture! Work with a group of people who challenge you and inspire you, spend time with them, and they will change your life for the better!

Cons

I have nothing to add here.

Pros

They do 1 on 1 check meetings with managers and employees and have some structure to have helpful conversations. Unfortunately it almost always results in no concrete action or changes.

Cons

They preach and preach about maintaining culture, clarity is kind, having hard and constructive conflict. You have two options as an employee here, you can lean in and embrace the growth and uncomfortable conversations or stand by yourself until they decide to part ways with you. During my year at block imaging I leaned in and embraced those many uncomfortable conversations and opportunities for interpersonal growth. I gave feedback so honest my manager said that he had never had an employee say anything close to the things I said to him. And yet none of those conversations helped my team, none of those conversations helped my morale or changed any part of my work experience at block imaging. At every turn I became more discouraged and less and less motivated to continue working hard for a company that catered to employees and managers who showed up late and found ways to slack off on the clock. Block Imaging is so obsessed with growing and investing in their culture they cannot see when they have employees infecting the very culture they are so desperate to protect. They have new hires a week in already showing up whenever they feel like it and disappearing for hours a day absolutely unaccounted for. And the whole year I asked for feedback, incentives or opportunities I could grow and move forward in the company. All I got was a promise that come my 14 month mark I would get a raise based on my performance, (which I was assured over and over again was above expectations) my performance which would be assessed by a manager oblivious to the fact that his team's morale and trust for one another was at rock-bottom. The very thought of waiting that long and hoping beyond hope that I would be finally rewarded for my dedication and hard work is beyond laughable. Block Imaging needs to take a long hard look at how slow they are to move on from terrible employees. They are driving mature and hardworking employees away from working here because they are unwilling to cut their losses on entry level employees who are taking advantage of them at every conceivable opportunity. The Inventory Coordinator team and company in general is bloated with people all too willing to stay at a job that protects them from the realities of real expectations in a workplace as long as they participate in the pizza parties and company culture building activities.

First and foremost, I’m disappointed to hear that your experience here was so negative. While creating a place where people love to work is at the heart of our mission, I recognize that we’re imperfect. One of the most important challenges we face in seasons of significant growth is rapidly developing new leaders. We’re committed to continuing to develop our leaders as they equip and encourage each team member around the world. As it relates to “parting ways,” it’s an infrequent and unfortunate part of leading a team. Block Imaging is committed to creating pathways forward whenever possible. And yet the detailing of your experience certainly provides further clarity as to why we weren’t able to close the gap and made the decision to part ways. Thank you for your investment and feedback. It’s a great reminder that while we work tirelessly and intentionally to create a place where People Matter more…..that every person has a different experience and it’s a mission that stretches us and that we never fully arrive at. On behalf of the entire Block Imaging team, we wish you the very best in the season ahead. Respectfully, Josh Block

Pros

Throughout my employment at Block Imaging, I had the pleasure of meeting and connecting with exceptional individuals. I found support and encouragement from select colleagues who were dedicated to fostering a positive work environment and helping each other thrive.

Cons

When I initially joined Block Imaging, I was impressed by the company's culture. The mission statement was prominently displayed, the onboarding process was welcoming, and there was a palpable sense of enthusiasm among employees. However, over time, certain issues began to surface. Pay raises were modest, tensions between team members were noticeable, and I observed instances of manipulation. Despite raising my concerns, I remained optimistic about my growth within the company. I overlooked being frequently interrupted in meetings, the lack of representation of women in leadership roles, and the unprofessional gossiping among higher-level executives. I believed in the company's values and aspirations and strived to align myself with them. As time went on, I realized that questioning leadership or expressing concerns was not encouraged. Instead, I was subtly reminded of the company's core values and mission, which made me feel hesitant about voicing legitimate questions and suggestions. The emphasis on 'perception' by management added to this unease. The announcement of the company's acquisition by Siemens Healthcare in spring 2023 raised further uncertainties for me and many others. Despite assurances of new opportunities, I couldn't shake off my concerns about the future of my role and career trajectory within the evolving corporate landscape. Ultimately, these lingering uncertainties led to my decision to part ways with the company. Lack of Diversity: When I left Block Imaging, there was a notable lack of diversity in high-level leadership positions. There was only one woman in a director or VP role, and the representation of people of color, particularly Black employees, was minimal. The company heavily relied on employee referrals for recruitment, leading to a workforce predominantly composed of white males of the Christian faith, often recruited from their church community. The absence of a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) statement in the handbook or formal training for new employees exacerbated these disparities, creating noticeable gaps among the workforce. By neglecting DEI efforts during the onboarding process, valuable teaching moments for diversity awareness were missed. Despite repeated feedback through employee satisfaction and development surveys, highlighting the necessity for greater DEI initiatives, no substantial changes were implemented. This lack of progress in addressing diversity issues contributed to my decision to seek opportunities elsewhere, as I didn't feel confident in advancing my career within a company where diverse representation in leadership was lacking. Salary and Annual Raises: I quickly discovered at Block Imaging that exemplary performance, strong interpersonal skills, and a continuous commitment to personal growth did not necessarily translate into meaningful pay raises or recognition. Despite going above and beyond expectations, employees could typically only expect a modest 1-3% raise per year, if they received one at all. The company's salary structure seemed outdated, relying solely on the average salary in the Holt, MI area without considering individual contributions or market trends. This became especially challenging during periods of inflation, as efforts to secure fair pay increases often yielded minimal results. I personally advocated for a pay raise through discussions with my manager, but the outcome was underwhelming. The lack of substantial financial rewards for exceptional performance was a significant factor in my decision to reevaluate my career path. Benefits: During my time at Block Imaging, I opted not to utilize the company's benefits package. Feedback from colleagues indicated that the benefits were costly and provided limited value to employees. Seeking medical specialists, therapy, or specific treatments was often challenging due to the insurance program's lack of coverage or affordability. Considering the company's focus on innovative healthcare and patient-centric values, one would expect a more robust and comprehensive insurance plan that caters to employees' needs when they become patients themselves. The disconnect between the company's mission and the shortcomings of its benefits program was a concern raised by myself and others.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and provide feedback. While it’s my deep hope for everyone to love being a part of this team, it’s particularly disheartening to hear such a negative experience from a team member who was part of our team for such a lengthy time. In pursuit of providing clarity for those who are interested in joining our team, I’ll speak to two of the concerns listed: 1. Compensation --- as with any organization, Block Imaging approaches compensation from a market driven approach. We have team members from New York to California to France and Japan to which the markets and cost of living differ substantially. Our deep hope is to provide opportunities for people to grow in responsibility and compensation. 2. Diversity – while we’ve grown in leaps and bounds in this area over the last 36 months, we recognize this as an area that’s not a box to check but a space for organizations to grow in. The only comment that I would be remiss to not speak to is the reference to “repeated feedback through employee satisfaction and development surveys” in the realm of DEI. Our Spring engagement survey trends continue to place Block Imaging in the in the top 5% of organizations nationally and specific references to diversity have been few and far between. With that being said, we recognize that even the best organizations have people with unmet expectations and we also understand that diversity is a sensitive topic to provide feedback on. As our handbook addresses, we’re committed to being an equal opportunity employer and in turn fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity and inclusion, for every member of our team. Thank you again for sharing and I hope that the company you’ve joined will be a place where you can thrive. Respectfully, Josh Block
