Great cause, but don't expect to be valued for your hard work

Pros

Knowing that you are truly making a difference in the community, a great cause, and a great way to meet great people (fundraising participants)

Cons

Expect to work really long hours, and when your hard work gets noticed and you get promoted, expect to work even longer hours, and get almost nothing for a raise. Expect to have zero work-life balance, and have to sell your soul for the organization. And no matter how hard you work, you will be expected to do more. It's never enough. Good talented people with good, fresh ideas don't get rewarded.

Pros

The mission. The only reason I stay is I know I'm making a difference in the lives of the families affected by blood cancers.

Cons

Employees burn out quickly due to unreasonable expectations and poor work-life balance. No matter how hard you work and how much you succeed, it is never enough. Focused too heavily on the revenue and not enough on relationships.
