Pros

1. Job(merchandiser) itself is very easy. 2. As long as you stocked icecream in the way mentioned by your supervisor (or in some cases how the manager of the store(s) would like it) Can't really get easier then that. 3. Sometimes visit cities around your house you may have not been to. 4. Straight forward job. 5. (Main one) Receive gas compensation. 6. Manager work around your schedule often.

Cons

1. Not steady income not recommended as main source of income if you have your own place for you get work on an "on call" basis. 2. Only get gas compensation check at the end of the month.

Pros

Retirement package and job stability are the reasons people stay. They've never had any layoffs in over 100 years. Work life balance is great if you are in management. Taking time to go to the doctor or a child's school function is no big deal. The product sells itself in Texas.

Cons

Promotions are hard to get unless you are willing to move out of state to a new area. It can happen if you get lucky and someone retires though. It's a good ol boy company. It's all about who you are buddies with. If the wrong person has a problem with you then you are screwed no matter what anybody else thinks. Salary is below par. Lots of college graduates get a couple years of experience and then leave. I should have. Promotion from driver to Supervisor gets a pay cut. Promotion from Supervisor to Territory Manager may get a pay cut too depending on how much you were making. Promotions after that get a raise, but very small. Raises in general don't even come close to the rise in cost of living. Also, raises get smaller the more you make no matter how good a job you do.
