Pros

Great gratis, great product knowledge, you get to be the first to try new products, owners are nice, and customers are usually alright. Pay was nice.

Cons

The management is atrocious; they are not team players, they are buddy-buddy with the DMs to make themselves look good and the sales associates look bad, they will make you stay hours past your shift even if you can't, and they will never give you direct orders or criticism. Managers do not take into account your personal life for scheduling and will just give themselves whatever hours they want and leave the employees with no time off. The benefits are a joke and so is commission. When I was hired I was told that I would have the opportunity to grow into another position that I am qualified for, and well, they lied and I never got it.

For the love of God, run away

Pros

Somehow, they seem to hire amazing mid-level employees. So your coworkers are lovely people who are really good at their jobs. Since I left the Cofounders also left, which were one of the main sources of the horrible working environment. The CEO would literally throw things across the room when she didn't like them and the COO was a total creep who said the most inappropriate things to female employees and would do things like pet their hair and touch their shoulders. Can you say sexual harassment? So it's a huge win that they won't be there.

Cons

- the benefits and pay are fine, not amazing. - this company is so cheap they won't even provide coffee. They act like it's a gift for you to even breathe the air in their office. - Culture - run away

Bluemercury doesn’t care about you

Pros

Well, it’s a job. I’m sure coworkers are nice at all the other stores as well. I would say “gratis” but the company has become so stingy on that, too.

Cons

Having to work holidays even though the stores are slow and it costs the company more money than they are making. No work/life balance. None. At all. Want a Saturday off? Have to use PTO. And you only get 10 days. No sick days. Want a family? Want to have kids? Too bad, no maternity leave. Oh, but have no fear because Bluemercury will help you with IVF...but still no maternity leave. Favoritism. Favoritism. Favoritism. “Promotes from within”....that’s a lie. You can be insanely qualified for a promotion and still not get it simply because they hire people they favor. Crap raises. Only 1% commission. Which is not competitive at all for other retailers. Store managers aren’t qualified for their jobs. Probably because of the favoritism and the fact that they overlooked someone with better qualifications. For this to be a company owned by a woman...they don’t care about you or your family. Management gets holidays off. But how dare they let YOU see your family. I can’t get over the fact that this company does not offer maternity leave. What kind of incentive do young women have for staying here? None!!
