Pros

The people that work there were the only pro for me. It was very difficult to leave my coworkers.

Cons

VPs and Directors were a challenge to work with as they were constantly talking crap about one another, causing stress and confusing their employees. Higher ups were constantly making employees uncomfortable, doing personal work for them, dropping everything at a moments notice just to get something over for them only for them to tell you their child could do this better. No opportunity for growth as my boss would never leave the company and the company would never see higher ups as dead weight just constantly saying "yes" when we should be asking "why". It's a "yes, women!" mentality, but there's no maternity leave.

Pros

They hire “ beauty junkies” for a reason, y’all! After working in this sabotage filled, lifetime original like work scenario. A year was all I could stand. I learned the hard way that promises from this company are empty promises. The lack of moral compass continues to spiral at the expense of associates that don’t know better. So don’t fall for the Gratis Bait! it’s not worth it. #guilty #blindedbythelight #nottodaysatan

Cons

Total lack of moral compass. I can’t-

Pros

Gratis. Vendors are generous with giving out gratis.

Cons

Pay is horrible. Absolutely no growth. Upper management for the California district plays favoritism. At first, this company was a dream come true. Associates were given a chance to grow within the industry, with responsibilities such as becoming key holders and understanding the business. Bluemercury had so much potential as a leading retailer in the beauty world. However, with all the new stores opening up in the past year or two, they started hiring the craziest and most unqualified people..in their corporate office and in stores! Rules changed left and right. We were told as a district not too long ago that the Vice President made a decision to no longer hire from within. Meaning: As a manager, you can no longer grow. As a Beauty Advisor, don’t even think of growing into an assistant manager or a store manager. Assistant manager positions DO NOT EXIST unless you are a multi million $ door. Which the only store in the company to do so is a store on the east coast. Did I forget to mention how hours got cut? Thankfully I got out before this could affect me. However I still have many friends in the company who this ended up affecting. Managers and Associates took a DRASTIC paycut, and in my district some managers I know, had to even get rid of some of their employees because “the company doesn’t have enough hours”. Don’t believe me? Just ask around. DO YOUR RESEARCH. This is a very toxic company to work for. They don’t value you. God forbid if you’re caught up in some sort of drama. THE WHOLE COMPANY WILL KNOW ABOUT IT. Upper management is very unprofessional when it comes to being discreet about gossip. Most of the time, they are the ones spreading it to other stores they favor. Bluemercury HR department is a joke. Nothing you say is safe, it will get back to your management in a non beneficial way towards you. Once you get Macy’s Hr involved, then that’s when they Start to act like everything is ok. ONLY TRUST MACY’S TO GET THINGS DONE THE RIGHT WAY. Do yourself a favor and don’t apply. You’ll regret it, big time.
