Pros

Lots of gratis, fairly consistent training on individual brands/product knowledge.

Cons

I can only review my experience working in a location with very little foot traffic. Even though you're hired as a 'makeup artist/sales associate' I think the titles of 'stock clerk' and 'housekeeper' are more realistic titles. Retail sales is definitely the focus, but sadly there's zero retail sales training. As the company opens stores at an extremely fast rate, it seemingly invests little to nothing in updating its antiquated POS system. As an associate, or even as a store manager it's impossible to communicate via company email to anyone outside the company, including vendors or customers. Very impractical and unnecessarily cautious. Pay is adequate at best, and one gets the the sense that all that gratis somehow is to make up for the less than stellar pay. Store managers are required, REQUIRED, to have separate days off, so that pretty much insures that no one gets two days off in a row. There's no set schedule and corporate takes a long time to approve schedules, so it can be very challenging to plan your personal life, doctors appointments etc. Having worked here for two years I definitely see a pattern: new store and district managers start off excited for their opportunity... but slowly disintegrate into frustrated, harried, over-worked and under-supported employees. They then pass on this frustrated and reactionary behavior onto their staff. Every single person that I've encountered present the same: overworked, overweight, overwhelmed. This is the type of company that will use you up, to the last drop.

Pros

Gratis. That's it. There's a 20 word minimum but I can't come up with enough pros to fill this space

Cons

Too many to list .... the company is a disorganized mess that does not value its employees whatsoever. No room for growth and no appreciation. Just sell, sell, sell. You could literally be the worst employee ever and be robbing the company blind but they wouldn't care as long as your numbers are good.

Pros

So many opportunities here!! I took the job knowing I'd collapse under the pressure or grow immensely. Luckily I didn't collapse, and I've gained great peers in my time here, with great respect grown out of helping each other out when things are moving quickly. So many smart and awesome team players here. No doubt about it, Bluemercury is a company experiencing exponential growth, which isn't always comfortable. But I think it's easier to look around and complain about what hasn't been handed to you in a neat package, than to accept the greater challenge of assessing the situation with curiosity, seeking to understand the reasons we're here and why Bluemercury is how it is, and propose solutions for improvement. I haven't worked with a single person here, all the way to the top, who hasn't supported my ideas for growth or improvement, empowered me to take a stab, and celebrated my accomplishments. How awesome is that.

Cons

We don't have all the perks some companies do, if you place priority on job cushiness and regular boxes to check, it might not be a great fit. I feel there's also an attitude amongst some employees that things are dysfunctional, and by choice. To that I say, if something ain't working right, try to be part of the solution. We have plenty of awesome self starters happy to join in the effort.
