Pros

Great professional development opportunities. Opportunity to work with very talented, intelligent people from all over the world. Opportunity to grow a professional network. Potential to work with diverse clients. Proven personal reputation leads to greater flexibility in terms of where you work from. Company takes ethical and legal policies extremely seriously. Innovation is still alive and well at the firm.

Cons

Work / Life balance is a myth and burnout is the norm. Expect to work nights and weekends for the sake of business development. Bringing in new business is essential to getting promoted and is central to the company culture. You won't make as much money as other consulting firms. Intra-company politics play highly into every decision made. Lack of transparency from leadership about company's strategic vision. Executive communications cryptic and this permeates down through lower management levels. Job security is a myth. Increasingly an "up or out" culture.

Pros

Booz Allen Hamilton definitely has many good policies and guidlines for protecting their employees from outside harm or during times of personal hardships. The firm stands strong for work-life balance (until you become a manager). I felt that I was always dealt with fairly and was always welcome to bring up a concern without fear of being ignored or reprimanded.

Cons

When I was initially hired I really felt underpaid. I know now that this fact is well known within the Management consulting field, BAH underpays its employees compared to other competitor firms. I was dissapointed to really have poor guidance from my manger as to how to accomplish my assessment goals in order to reach promotion. The lack of communication from management as to what it took to be promoted goes directly couter to the firms vocal approach to enhancing the clarity of the assessment process as well as streamlining it so that everyone gets fairly evaluated. I realize that promotion is naturally subjective but come on, I have blantently been told that it really all depends on who your manager is and guess I go stuck with one who "is nitpicky about everything and doesn't cut anyone any slack". It also seems that because making the "bottom line" financially is so important, it often times pressures managers to have to decide between keeping their employees at their current level and saving money, or promoting them and losing their business growth margin. Overall honestly I am looking for another job. Oh, and career mobility sucks. It really all has to do with if your manager is going to allow you to swich roles, and doesn't actually help at all to find another job, it just helps to physically move locations.

Pros

-A lot of opportunity for growth, professional/salary -Management respect employees (depends on management chain) -Working with very driven co-workers -DON'T drink the kool-aid at the orientation, don't be brain-washed and think you're going to be working at Disney World. If you come into the job realizing that this is a for-profit company you'll be happy but if you believe what they tell you at orientation (this company is the best thing since sliced bread) you'll be disappointed.

Cons

-MAKE SURE you get as high a salary as possible coming in because they will work you and make as much money off you as possible! -Culture where people work long hours -Can be a sweatshop if you allow it -Management is hands off; new employees are not given a lot of guidance because everyone is so busy -You have to be on your Ps and Qs at all times
