      Slower pace and risk averse, but good work-life balance

      Pros

      Employees generally enjoy a great work-life balance for a well-regarded consultancy. Career growth below the Sr. Associate level is largely employee-driven and thus there is a lot of flexibility to steer your career in the direction of your choice. There's no up-or-out system as exists with private-sector consultancies.

      Cons

      Given the nature of government consulting, projects can sometimes be slower-paced and long-term efforts (1 year or more)--as a result, many employees experience less variety in their work than they might otherwise like.

      Pros

      lots of opportunities if you are willing to seek it out. great work/life balance and flexibility in schedule. Success depends on your ability to network and market yourself and your abilities. Must be willing to go above and beyond to get leadership's attention. Smart people, driven people.

      Cons

      You are just a number. Lots of emphasis on utilization. Promotions are not always fair. A lot of "volunteer" time expected. No bonuses for Level 3 and below... Kind of a joke, if you ask me.
