Not worth it.

Pros

Had the opportunity to meet some great team members. If you are willing to bite the bullet and play the politics you can move up quickly enough. Unfortunately however, this will come at the expense of distancing yourself from your team members who won't see eye to eye with most of the decisions.

Cons

Leadership was absolutely horrible and lacked any qualities required to build a good workplace culture. Company culture leans heavily on the older "grown ups" and does not seem to value younger employees' opinions. They call themselves a tech company, but lack the vision and opinion to take any risks a tech company might. Management's responsibilities run counter to development teams and are improperly incentivized, often rewarded for behaviors which negatively affect the development of the product.

Pros

Some people are nice. Have great PowerPoints.

Cons

It’s a sink or swim culture here where they care about optics more than anything else. There’s been a lot of turnover and leadership refuses to do anything differently for retention. They care about nice looking decks more than anything else. They don’t properly onboard you or try yo set you up for success. But they’ll definitely make it known if you don’t meet their changing and unmet expectations. I wouldn’t recommend this work culture. They say they value diversity but it’s performative. Their actions say otherwise and have the data to support why but don’t do anything meaningful about it.

Pros

Booz Allen Hamilton does a good job of providing their employees with some tools to help them succeed in client engagements; a faster computer, networking connections to more experienced professionals, and even while working for government, insulates the employees somewhat from unnecessary regulation and trainings: You have more flexible working hours than your government colleagues.

Cons

Booz Allen Hamilton is famously a "sink or swim" organization. Their business model is billable hours, so its no surprise that they try to put you in front of client as soon as possible, even if that means you are undertrained, or alone. It also means that you oftentimes don't get to choose the clients or work you want, as your managers will have the role of keeping "billets" filled, and your interests don't make the business money. The facilities in which you work are often run-down government buildings with poor IT infrastructure, and clients who are themselves government bureaucrats often espouse an obstinate opinion on how things should be done. Creativity and ambition are consequently not rewarded half as much as conformity and obedience.
