Bose Doesn't Have Their Act Together

Pros

I am lucky enough to have a boss who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the work that he does, while being down to Earth and easy to talk to. Bose products are undeniably great as far as audio equipment goes, and many are passionate about the consumer electronics market in general. Pay is competitive with other companies as far as I'm aware. Work/life balance is good, most people WFH on Fridays and many leave before 5 PM on weekdays because of the suburban location of the corporate offices.

Cons

The biggest problems with Bose lie in the lack of accountability or acknowledgement of problems, from executives all the way down. I feel that I have no room to grow, expand my skills, and much of the work I do is seemingly thrown away and has no real impact on decision making. This sort of culture is especially true in Marketing team, where favoritism, bad-decision making (or lack of making a decision at all) lead to fudging numbers and trying to make things look good for themselves so that their bosses praise them. It's a toxic environment that could use a 21st century makeover. Add the toxic/stale work environment to living in a cube farm (regardless of what team you're on) and going to work here every day quickly becomes tedious. Perks are mainly in the form of benefits (a 5-10% bonus at the end of the year), but vacation time is limited to two weeks, and there aren't any smaller perks (free coffee, snacks, group activities) that get you motivated. Amount of work done every day by senior level management is questionable, and often tasks are done "fire-drill style" that they need to be rushed to be done/thrown together without any warning.

Pros

The company had a family like feel, employees were treated well and had fun. Good benefits, solid discount. I planned on being a lifer. Two years ago my review would have been 5 stars.

Cons

The company sadly changed direction in 2015. Huge layoffs primarily flew under the radar due to a staggered approach. Hundreds have been laid off and they are currently outsourcing all call center jobs to the Philippines. After Dr. Bose became sick and eventually passed, everything went down hill. A stagnant product line and poor management decisions with product marketing really sank the company. They will rebound but it will take years. The brand and reputation has been bruised badly.

Pros

Great culture, seems caring and supportive though slow to change, good benefits and talented people.

Cons

Recent layoffs are sudden and without any warning - layoffs based on unproven, little thought through reorganizations.
