      Gratifying work, toxic culture and environment

      Pros

      The products made in the CRM division improve the quality of patient's lives. There is evidence of that every day. It is very gratifying to be involved in a company whose business has that focus.

      Cons

      Upper management, especially in IS, is oblivious to everything except cutting costs. No strategy, no road map, just innuendos about upcoming off-shoring of jobs. There is no trust, no information. Performance ratings are not based on actual work or feedback from peers or customers.

      Having been a Guidant employee acquired by Boston Scientific, this was a bad acquisition for me.

      Pros

      Flexible work schedule. This has helped me on a number of occasions when I needed to deal with family issues. Lots of great exposure to new technology.

      Cons

      Boston Scientific strives to be an average company. There seems to be an strong desire to do what the market is doing and to not stray far from that. In the long run, I think that hurts our ability to bring great things to the market. I suppose that's simply the way big business runs. Having worked for smaller companies that were more employee centric, this seems to be a bad route to take. Training was almost non-existent for many years due to the fact that we were not allowed to travel.

      Pros

      - Improves people's life everyday - Competent People to work with - Willing to sacrifice time for quality, and therefore everyone holds a higher standard of their work.

      Cons

      - Not a lot of opportunities left for leadership - Focus too much on short term goal - Senior management does not communicate to the employees often - No effort is made to keep the talented employees
