      Pros

      analytical, fast-paced, very smart boss, intersting and thought provoking work, really making a difference in peopl's llives, great location and facilities

      Cons

      demanding in terms of time commitment, low tolerance of mistakes, pressure cooker, little respect for people's learning curves, very hierarchical, hard to make things happen

      Deadlines trump quality

      Pros

      You are given the opportunity to create and work on projects that are challenging. However, the deadlines and expectations of the projects success are not always reasonable. There are some very dedicated, talented people working at the company who are very proud of their work. Management is usually pretty reasonable about personal time off or vacation time.

      Cons

      The deadlines often trump quality which can lead to things like errors or recalls. The expectations of performance in addition to the review system are very reasonable, which means it is extremely difficult to move up.

      Much better when it was Guidant

      Pros

      Guidant (not sure about BSX) cared about patients and employees, not just the bottom line. Fred McCoy was really approachable. Tried very hard to produce quality medical devices even though there were some legal issues.

      Cons

      BSX doesn't seem to care about anything except the bottom line. Guidant was Top 100 Places to Work For ... BSX? Management admitted they didn't care about that at all. Says a lot about the culture.
