Pros

Guidant (not sure about BSX) cared about patients and employees, not just the bottom line. Fred McCoy was really approachable. Tried very hard to produce quality medical devices even though there were some legal issues.

Cons

BSX doesn't seem to care about anything except the bottom line. Guidant was Top 100 Places to Work For ... BSX? Management admitted they didn't care about that at all. Says a lot about the culture.

Pros

Good pay. Good benefits. My coworkers who were at the same level as me were supportive.

Cons

Work environment was highly stressful and often unsustainable. Management created a culture where employees were frequently overworked, undervalued, and burned out. Communication from leadership was inconsistent and their expectations changed frequently. Work-life balance was very poor. Employee concerns did not get taken seriously unless they directly impacted company performance. When an HR compliant involving my supervisor was filed for his behavior with input from the majority of the team members, no meaningful action was taken beyond stating it was handled "per BSC policy". Opportunities for promotion and career advancement were limited. Employees who treated others poorly were often still rewarded or praised as long as performance metrics were met. There was a clear culture of favoritism and hierarchy, and employees outside of those circles could work above and beyond expectations without receiving recognition or advancement opportunities. In 2 years, there were 12 employees who were fired in a 10 person department.

Pros

Benefits - good health and dental insurance ESPP - employee stock program available if one chooses to participate Job Security - once you have this job and are trained, even a pandemic will not get you laid off - it takes much too long to train a new employee

Cons

Short-Staffed Teams - this company was previously 4th place among mapping systems/ablation technology within the field. BSC is still playing catch up with well-established competitors and is still struggling to hire faster enough to remain competitive when opportunities arise. The mindset to not already have someone hired and trained/ready for that next opportunity will be where major business misses happen. The teams are not even staffed enough to cover and maintain the business that is already established. Expect long hours and no work life balance.
