Honesty is key

Pros

Pretty campuses, senior staff recognizes people by name. Most divisions and departments have pockets of people working together that truly care about the value each employee brings.

Cons

At one time the company retained its core of providing a small company feel even as it grew in numbers. The last several years brought in a LOT of new employees, so much so that you didn’t know all the people in your own department. It seemed like less and less people engage with each other, and hardly lift their faces out of their phones to say hello to each other. The culture that made this truly a great place to work doesn’t exist anymore. The focus seems to be intently on the bottom line and acquisitions. Average employees work 60+ hours a week, and depending on what manager you have promotions and raises don’t happen. Favoritism exists. Employees currently either have been there less than a few years or about 20 years, and the index will very clearly point out the ages. Pay particular attention to the Diversity Equity and Inclusion stats. Middle management is often left unchecked, and people services can be little to no help when issues are raised. Heath insurance isn’t ideal. Used to be BCBS and it moved to UMR. Lots of additional costs to the employee.

Pros

Pay is excellent and there is a good 401k match. Generally I was surrounded by many high quality, assertive, and talented, people who I remain friends with today.

Cons

Was kind of cliquey and an old boys club when I was there; and who you were friends with definitely mattered in your advancement. No pension plan (unlike competitors J&J and Medtronic) and generally they don't display a lot of concern about their employee's career development ...it's more about driving the number.

Great Technology, Declining Culture

Pros

Started out years ago as a high performance culture, then slowly over the years have lost nearly all top VP talent due to lack of visionary leadership from the president.

Cons

Getting more political by the year, losing its winning spirit. Somewhat bureaucratic. Lost nearly all of its get-it-done no-bullshit straight shooters to startups.
