Pros
Amazing opportunity to connect with blind youth and help them learn independent skills, social skills, and have an intrinsic love for your job. You will (if you chose to) create life long relationships with the kids you work with. A terrific introduction into teaching and non profit work.
Cons
Older staff segregates younger staff and treat them poorly with "on call" hours that make it impossible to make teaching blind youth a long term commitment. Several weeks at a time without work, but no wiggle room on having a second job. Managament say they will hire up from within and then secretly hire outside parties without ever mentioning positions to current employees. It's unfortunate that they treat youth department staff so poorly when it takes a great deal of time to truly connect to blind/vision impaired youth. It seems they don't care about the youth department unless it comes to promotional moments that may yeild donations such as Cane Quest. They treat the senior students better so they can get donations, and since kids can't donate money they don't seem to be a priority.
