Pros

It's a great mission and constituency

Cons

This organization does not embrace diversity, especially when it comes to leadership. I don't think there is even ONE African American executive director or regional director in the organization. That cannot be a coincidence. It's a cultural problem.

Waiting for Change

Pros

I really like my co-workers and really like the flexibility of the work life balance. Love the mission of what JDRF does.

Cons

Management staff members lack vision and there's no room for growth. JDRF needs new blood with industry experience, who can provide newer visions. Since there's lack of vision there's too much unnecessary bureaucracy that causes stagnation within budget approvals and project stagnation. I see this occur in many business verticals not only within on particular department.

Run For Your Life

Pros

Meaningful cause with passionate volunteers and fundraisers. You have the opportunity to meet and develop wonderful relationships with families who are directly connected to Type 1 Diabetes--best part of the job!

Cons

On a local level there is no direct guidance or training--expected to learn your job through PowerPoints trainings which isn't realistic. Executive Director does not know how to train you for your position and will micro-manage staff. IT and reporting that is available for staff use falls far behind industry standards making it impossible to provide accurate information and analysis to superiors and board members--they are unaware. Stroking the egos of board and committee members comes before the wants and needs of the families served. In my experience, there is a persistent pattern of mistreatment and bullying from others in the workplace preventing you from effectively doing your job.
