Great Mission, Poor Leadership Nationally and At Some Local Chapters
Pros
JDRF has a superb mission to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. The volunteers are dedicated and passionate and want to support the organization to increase funding for critical research that will support those living with T1D, today, until the cure is found. There are some really great staff members who truly care about the mission and ALL of the volunteers and want to collaborate with their colleagues. Staff work very, very hard often giving up nights and weekends to meet volunteer needs
Cons
Only the right volunteers are valued Staff thoughts are not respected Work often not genuinely acknowledged Diversity efforts are not really supported HR is not there to support the staff; only the organization Focus on money, not people National leadership is working to consolidate more and more responsibility that once was held by local staff. While it is understandable in-light of a post pandemic world, many of these changes have negatively impacted the relationship between donors and staff. Further more, JDRF at the national level seems to be unaware or has no interest in hearing about or addressing numerous concerns at the local level - poor fund management, poor leadership, non-collaborative work environments, and un-supportive work environments. This is not true at all locations, but there are certainly several that fall in this category. If you are looking to work at JDRF - do your research and ask the tough questions about the culture and vision for your growth and development. If you find the right leaders and teammates, it can be a great experience. Staff work really hard, giving up nights and weekends.
