Very high employee turnover at the communities. My mom who is a resident complains about this often. Very likely a reflection of pay, benefits, training and leadership at this level which is a consistent theme among these reviews.
I work in the Milwaukee corporate office. This office is hemorrhaging talent right now because of sweatshop-like conditions and it's probably intentionally being done as a way to cull older, more experienced, and therefore higher paid, associates who can go elsewhere. There are zero executives left in Milwaukee now as all have migrated to Nashville corporate. No matter what execs say few in Milwaukee believe their jobs will still be located here in 2 years. I am actively job hunting and every recruiter I talk to says they have lots of calls from Brookdale associates looking to leave.
The current culling reflects a fundamental change of character of this company in the past year. Last year they posted culture posters all over and now, in response to financial pressure, the newish CEO is all about money and doesn't live up to his own stated culture. He has wiped out his C-suite and hired aggressive cost cutters. Unfortunately an already very lean company becomes extremely painful to work for when pushed even harder. The associates here are in for 18-24 months of horrible working conditions before it might get better. It used to be an enjoyable place to work, but no more. They just eliminated plant service and free cups for coffee and water to cut costs. Good times, good times.
If you are hired as a manger here don't expect any training, development or mentoring. This is a sink or swim environment with little work-life balance. Which is ironic given that they are cutting all their experienced people. Brookdale tolerates aggressive, abusive managers. There are several that the company is well aware of and does nothing about.
Corporate is staffed appropriately, by head count, but with the wrong talent sets or levels of skill. If you are a manager expect that you will have under or inappropriately talented staff and not be given adequate funding to hire appropriately talented people for open positions. Any-warm-body-will-do is a pervasive attitude here.
