Brookdale Senior Living reviews

Careless is the word that comes to mind when I think about the train wreck of the broken Emeritus and the robotic Brookdale coming together. What can Wall Street and any investors hope to gain by seeing this Frankenstein of a company literally distort the real need to in our country of caring for seniors. Emails and memos come out defending the management team and even saying our most recent "Top Ten Worst Places to Work" is just fabricated by "some disgruntled former employees". I still work here because I am too tired to look for another job and I have little to no hope for my own career future. I miss so many of the leaders who created the original Brookdale and American Retirement Company, as they brought a real heart and soul to believing we all at the community level could really care and be responsible. Now, we are treated like robots in a computer dashboard world of keeping the toilet paper and food costs below budget. There is no focus on our residents or our staff. Only numbers and the little daily "metrics" of micromanaging our leaders and this simple, but over data driven Brookdale world of believing this is any type of real management.

I'm now a Sales Manager. In this role, I see that Brookdale does not live up to it's mission statement. They are not for the residents or it's employees...it's all about building census. They get so worked up about building census that they forget about the current residents who are already paying so we end up losing residents faster than we can replace them. Its to the point they'll take people who they know should be in a nursing home. They pay their employees super low compared to other Senior Living Corporations because they are so busy using the money to buy out other Senior Living Corporations. And because they have everything in house ( Brookdale hospice,Brookdale therapy, Brookdale Home Health), I miss the opportunity of partnering with outside agencies who TRULY refers people back to the communities unlike our own team. You got sister communities fighting over leads because there are too many of Brookdale communities next to each other and all of them are equally getting ridiculously pressured on building census. And the way they charge for care is downright a fool. They nickle and dime everything than always trying to discount once the prospect complains on the care cost which shows how desperate they are about building census. Than they "claim" to have a system that'll generate labor hours as nurses enter the care being provided in the system but yet they cutting hours and staff in most of the communities. And the health insurance is expensive with a very high deductible. And as big as the company is, why haven't we gone paperless on resident agreements yet??? We are so behind on technology it's ridiculous.
