Pros

The people at Brookfield Zoo are very dedicated and talented, cooperative and hard-working. A joy to work with. They have a purposeful mission, so your work is making a difference. Leadership looks out for the staff and focuses on communicating and being transparent, with a focus on the animals, programs, and zoo experience for guests. They have events for their staff and a week dedicated to showing employee appreciation every year (in addition to every day). A very special, unique place to work.

Cons

Organization runs lean, so you have to be willing to work hard. No day is ever boring.

Disappointment Everywhere

Pros

The only pro about working for CZS is the mission and goals. I'd say that viewing and supporting the animals is sometimes, but you'll be too busy to truly enjoy.

Cons

You will experience disappointment everywhere. The top of the list of negatives is: 1. You will have to attempt to work with a large number of combative, disrespectful, self serving individuals. This is at ALL levels of the organization. 2. There is no forward movement. None in employment, none to employee resources, and none to facilities. 3. Leadership is mainly one of two categories: either they are highly resistant and actively deterring change, OR they are so frustrated by no change, no resources, no support, they will eagerly point fingers at anyone. 4. The hours you will spend on tasks that could take half or a third of the time because of outdated resources. Not to mention the extra frustration it gives then to your co-workers which then comes back on you. 5. No accountability, because of the issues in the environment. 6. Burnout. You want to stay, support the zoo and their mission because it's GREAT ONE. But it becomes too much and you'll sadly realize the toxicity at this place.
