Pros

Brown offers a flexible work environment. Graduate students have complete autonomy. The fellowships offered are reasonable. The other graduate students are interesting.

Cons

The requirements are not well communicated. The structure of the graduate school feels disorganized. Your success depends entirely on your advisor.

Pros

Brown is a friendly, laid-back and respectful place. Bureaucracy is fairly limited and the organization functions quite well. I can't comment much on career advancement.

Cons

While the large majority of the students at the university are excellent, you will certainly run across some spoiled, rich kids. They're more of an annoyance rather than a real issue and the administration doesn't take likely to inappropriate behavior.
