Pros

- The business strategies and practices at here are set up to build quick financial profitability for the company. Perhaps at the expense of journalistic quality or compensation of hired employees. - There are people you can find here who are amazing. They should probably leave ASAP (and a lot of them are)

Cons

- All communications from management can be treated as probably lies. The level of gaslighting to keep people there is unreal - They protect toxic employees due to financial expediency - It's honestly appalling the lack of baseline intelligence at this company - The lack of diversity is not just a problem, it permeates the culture so deeply that you can readily notice management looking down on employees of color and queer employees. Diversity is seen as a box to check for Bustle; they view these employees as capable, but there is a miasma of unconscious bias so deep it's clear Bustle doesn't expect nor recognize intelligence and excellence from anyone that is not a straight white person. - The compensation is below industry standard.

Pros

Some of the people are incredible, if you can dig through the crowd of bad.

Cons

Nothing I could write could effectively communicate how much my job at Bustle broke me. The management is flat out horrible, from senior editors to company leads. No one at the top has the required experience to be in their positions. HR is constantly taking information provided in confidence and sharing it without consent to managers. There is no diversity, and any sense of feminist values is just for clicks. It is impossible to move up, and managers don't foster growth. Rather, they blame you for their errors and the results of their poor management. There is no loyalty, no communication, and a relentless mean-girl culture. Work-life balance isn't great, and pay is low for the industry. I wish I would have never taken this job.

Video Department is a Mess

Pros

- good benefits, PTO, work/life balance - could be a good start for someone just starting their career

Cons

- no room for growth - terrible mangement - constantly-changing video strategies (or lack thereof) with little communication to employees - The rates for the amount of work required are terrible - no diversity - "corporate feminism" & company's ethics don't actually align with supposed feminist culture.
