Pros

All young fun people. Any time someone gives their notice, about every 2 weeks, we all go to the Kowloon on the final Friday and have a happy hour send off. Really fun since a lot of employees are fresh out of school and know how to have a good time. Beer if you attend a Friday meeting on ways to make the company better- Nothing results from these meetings but you can drink beer and hang out. New office with free coffee and free parking

Cons

60 hour work weeks easily You sign documentation stating that you will not leave reviews on any social media or the company threatens to sue you. The company has under 50 people and 1 of the owners was a lawyer so they will come after you so a lot of reviews don't stay up. C-4 is obsessed with online reputation so they put up reviews that are too perfect. Don't fall for it. No one has actually stayed at the company up to 2 years. What does that tell you. No health insurance Lots of dreams and promises NEVER met. "Things are different now." There is talk about "game changing" and social media revolutions. Don't fall for it.

Why so many employees run away from this company

Pros

C-4 Analytics has a lot of potential. A young and mostly motivated workforce, a good foothold in their main vertical and the agility that comes from being on the small side. There are pockets of good talent within the company, and teams can rally together to respond quickly even when clients make unreasonable demands. Occasionally subsidized lunch and breakfast.

Cons

Unfortunately, the company has an extremely high turnover, and there are many reasons for this. Senior management prefers to police rather than manage employees. There is a culture of paranoia at the top that prevents them from trusting employees, which leads to policies that make work-life balance a challenge. Compensation is very low for the location and industry, which is why C-4 Analytics is mostly staffed with recent college graduates now. Their benefits package is well under industry standards, and only valuable for single employees. Recognition and promotions are tied to personal whim rather than actual performance. You can be promoted in three months if you're liked, regardless of your competence, leading to overinflated egos and delusions of ability (see the Peter Principle), while capable employees with more than a year of experience -and that is old by C-4 standards- can be left ignored and undervalued. Standards have dropped rapidly following a long list of veteran employees leaving the company. When that happens, some of them are subjected to interrogation, harassment, and disparagement. Management will go as far as trying to stop other organizations from hiring you. Despite all of the feedback solicited by and provided to management, changes are slow and shallow. The main issues are never addressed, and eventually people seek other opportunities. As shocking as it may be, management thinks the best strategy to solve this is to write or commission reviews on Glassdoor to pretend that the company is better than it actually is. Expect a five-star review to be posted shortly after this one, and it will be easy to figure out which one is the most honest.

Growth Without Values

Pros

- Job stability and growth. C-4 is a financially successful digital marketing agency, and this is something that I do not see changing in the short term. To the credit of ownership, they have found a niche in the automotive vertical where, to this point, they have been able to provide better services than the competition. To that end, your job will likely be secure and there are opportunities for promotions, particularly in account management. - Employee personalities. This is a young company, and there’s a good group of talented employees that you can easily bond with. - Good for experience. For someone just out of college, C-4 is not a bad place to learn about online marketing from an agency perspective.

Cons

- Mediocre compensation and benefits. Compensation/benefits are not the worst that are out there, but I find them to be very subpar given the amount of work required and the current cash flow. Salaries, from my experience, are at least 25% below prevailing market salaries. The benefits package is typical of what you would find at a startup, but C-4 is most certainly not a startup at this juncture. In my opinion (and that of many reviewers!), they can afford to do better. Worse yet, the company tends to throw money at company parties and other extravagances that only highlight the salary/benefits, or lack thereof. - Lack of structure. As far as I can tell, there has always been a lack of process and structure. Granted, some of this is due to a general lack of organization amongst some current and former managers. Nonetheless, I find it telling that this issue has not been addressed properly when the company has been around for more than three years. The lack of task structure has real consequences too; some employees and groups have an extremely unreasonable workload. This is compounded by staffing priorities; C-4 keeps on hiring account managers while services departments (such as Creative, Social Media, PPC and Content) are perpetually undermanned. Anyone with agency experience will tell you that concentrating too much on client relations at the expense of client services is a recipe for disaster. - High turnover rate. There are not many employees that have been with the company for more than two years and in fact a lot of new hires leave after less than a year. Turnover has been especially high at the middle management level, and as a result most employees promoted to manager-level positions lack the experience internally (and sometimes externally) to effect change and to perform to the level that is needed. And those that do have the experience and ability usually leave before long. - Poor leadership. All of the issues I previously discussed are a result of poor leadership at the senior management level. I personally agree with those who have described their behavior as “erratic” and “stubborn”. They are too distrustful to delegate meaningfully or to properly take into account input that does not conform to their views. Worst of all, ownership does not appear to be interested in creating a company culture or mission based on values; I have to admit that the only motivations I see from them are on growing the company through client acquisition (i.e. making money). As a result we have seen principles fall by the wayside that inhibit not only employee morale but also sustainable success.
