The worst job I've ever had

Pros

HR does an amazing job of hiring smart, hard working people. You'll get to work with big brands and have a lot of opportunities to learn a lot in the process. Overall a great learning experience. It's a great location to work in Boston .

Cons

I had high hopes for this company, and sadly it turned out to be the worst job I've ever had. The perk of working with great people isn't one that will last. In my time at the company, I didn't meet one person who genuinely enjoyed their job as a whole. Everyone I met was relatively unhappy. I left the organization in the last 6 months, and at least five employees that I worked with on a regular basis have since left, with many others looking at the door. Retention is a problem, and those that stay are only there for the stability. If you have children, you'll get a free pass to leave early and execute a bit less. If you don't have children, expect that you'll pick up the slack of the parents when they leave for the day. Teams are designed to fail. Everyone recognizes this, yet poor structure and bad leadership are topics no one wants to address. Too many employees leave the office at the end of the week feeling overworked and demoralized. If you think you can openly speak to your manager about any of those issues, think again. It only makes you a target if you're not willing to put a smile on your face and pretend issues don't exist. Management finds a way to justify bad behavior to no end. You can speak with HR but doing so only shines a light on you. Expect your complaints to be filed away, never to see the light of day.

I’m sorry to hear how frustrated and clearly unhappy you were at C Space. We’re very proud of the people we hire and appreciate that you recognize all the talent that’s here. Additionally, we try hard to provide work-life integration and balance for all of our people, not only our parents, so we’ll take a close look to make sure that’s right. In our weekly pulse surveys to employees we’ll be digging in to some of your points, namely the receptivity to feedback. Though a tough review to read, we need to hear it and appreciate how you feel. I also hope you shared this feedback during your exit interview. We treat that feedback as data and compile themes and actionable outcomes to be shared back with teams and leaders. Thank you for sharing your voice. We are optimistic and yet humble about the challenges that come with growth. We are whole-heartedly committed to making C Space a great place to work for all of our employees.

Pros

Top notch clients, allows you to explore what you really want to do for the first few years of your career. Women lead the company.

Cons

Major internal problems make days unpredictable and stressful to the point of burnout and exhaustion.

Thank you for posting your feedback about your time with C Space. Working on collaborative teams for visible, industry leading clients to embed the voice of the customer across all business, marketing and product strategy can be an amazing career choice -- we’d argue not only for the first few years of one’s career but at all stages. And yes we are very proud that both our President in the Americas, Jessica DeVlieger and Managing Director in London, Kathryn Blanchard are female. I’m very sorry to hear that you feel there are internal challenges that have created inordinate stress, that management is not accountable to the same standards, doesn’t communicate genuinely or clearly, or is over-focused on selling our unique offering. You are a current employee it sounds like, so I encourage you to speak with your reporting manager about your concerns, and/or come talk to me or anyone in People & Ops. I can offer you and others reading a few thoughts in response for now. Each week we have two staff meetings (one global, one Americas) to share our numbers and spotlight the unique and amazing work our teams are doing, and those videos are then posted on The Spot, our internal communications platform with additional written summaries. There we also have: daily postings on our values and recognition page where employees share their genuine appreciation for each other, our Diversity Equity and Inclusion site with active Allies group leading the way, valuable client resources to help with specific work challenges, as well a comments section for individual queries. We also run engagement questions quarterly in our people development platform, Bridge. We offer daily yoga and have hosted speakers even prior to COVID that shared some of the latest on mental health strategies. We even have a dedicated site relating to all the new issues that have emerged in the COVID-era to make sure people know how to take advantage of new national and local offerings (including leaves) given how important mental and physical health are in this uncertain time. Certainly working in a client and professional services business can involve longer hours at times but it shouldn’t be the rule. I highly recommend you are transparent about this if that is your experience, to see if there are modifications that can be made to help you achieve better balance. Over 20% of our staff are taking advantage of our flexible work arrangements, even before the COVID era. Every C Space employee should feel comfortable raising their concerns to their manager and others that can help, and then take responsibility to make changes. I hope you can be one of them, and again, encourage you to come forward to myself or anyone on the People Team for a private conversation if you feel at all stuck in how to make things better for yourself. Thank you for your hard work for C Space!

Pros

The people are nice people, never really had issues with any of my managers because they were trained or good managers in general

Cons

Basically before the acquisition, it was still not great and now with their acquisition, they are laying off people left and right from the original company with no mercy. Pay was low - they gave me a raise to lay me off shortly after, they also moved me to a different department for a empty role need to then lay me off for a year, ruining my resume basically with a year of experience in something completely different than my normal history. I was excited to pivot and they used it against me. I will say they gave me a two week notice and let me do nothing for two week's while being paid, I got a week of severance pay per year of being there so a month's worth. If it weren't for the acquisition, I would have stayed longer because I enjoyed the work life balance. There was also some Asian and queer employees that appeared to be targeted for layoffs before other races. That was just low.
