Pros

The work is very meaningful. The center where I work has some of the most motivated and interesting students. The pay scale is fair. Center director and administrative staff are flexible and friendly.

Cons

I would like to see more opportunities for ongoing training. I feel like I haven't had a chance to learn new techniques since the training period when I first started teaching.

Wow - thank you for sharing our passion for helping each student unlock their potential for greatness! And I am happy to hear about your positive experience with your local Center team. You know, the quality of C2’s staff is evidenced by extremely positive customer interviews and a high percentage of customer referrals. In fact, 73% of customers have recommended C2 and most C2 students renew their hours after using up their initial purchase. Please be sure to submit your idea for continuous training to Myc2ideas@c2educate.com - we will continue to work on improvements to the current training process and welcome your feedback anytime.

Pros

personalized tutoring motivated tutors kind directors usually great kids

Cons

Say you will get $20 but you actually start with $18 Split weekend is awful: I am never able to travel or take a long weekend 2 weeks of training seems helpful but you are given no strategies to use or recommendations for secondary sources Answer keys are OFTEN incorrect I will often be given math students when I am entirely unqualified and not confident in that area You are not paid for cancellations as promised in the contract ***scheduling is awful - uses Google Sheets that are constantly updated last minute, when you get a new student you have no information on them until 10-15 minutes before you meet them.

Pros

Flexible scheduling Higher pay than competition (Huntington, Kumon, Mathnasium, etc) Good work environment (operational staff know their stuff, help each other) That "light-bulb is on" look in a child's eyes when they finally get something or get excited about the topic

Cons

Every location a semi-independent franchise, your experience varies depending on mgmt Last minute cancellations and scheduling always a mess (can have huge gaps, or show up only to have to everyone cancel, wasting the day) As-need, on-demand work, nigh impossible to plan week by week (unsteady income) Customers charged higher rates for 1-on-1 Employees paid a bare fraction of customer charges ($50/hr, office staff get may $10-12, tutors $21/hr) Company Sr Mgmt (above franchisee level) more profit-oriented, focusing on standardized tests more than academic subject tutoring for students; level of avarice in site mgmt varies between locations (some run locations as lifestyle side business, others as ruthless capitalists, full spectrum out there). Some parents push their children too far ("doctor, lawyer, or failure" mentality, pushing a 7th grader to study for SAT math, etc). How mgmt handles this says a lot. Loads of staff but tiny number of hours (ex: 3 site directors, 2 secretaries, a site owner and 12-15 tutors booked for maybe 4-10 hrs per tutor per week). Again, varies by franchise.
