Pros

- Talent at the IC level is high - Comp is competitive - Onsite lunch/gym are a nice park

Cons

- Weak management chain. Apart from sucking up to a boomer CEO and repeating outdated McKinsey management tropes, I'm not sure what value anyone with a Director+ title brings at C3 AI. - Overpaid exec staff. Our annual losses would be wiped out if we didn't pay our top 3-4 execs. - 5 days in person imo has been more detrimental than 4-day hybrid. - People are burnt out, stressed, exhausted, and management looks the other way. - Attrition is worse than I've ever seen at a tech company. - Routine end-of-quarter mass layoffs - Full-time employees are being replaced with ineffective contractors - I have personally been thrown under the bus by an exec in front of a customer so they could save face.

C3 AI Response
1y
We find it perplexing that someone would complain about a work from office culture after they have told us explicitly it is their preference. We make it very clear during the interview and job offer process that C3 AI is a highly collaborative, high-performance, work from office culture. All candidates who are made job offers tell us that they prefer work-from-office to hybrid or work-from-home.

Pros

- Free lunch is an extremely underrated perk in RWC and is honestly the highlight of my workday - Office management is really on top of things and plans fun events + happy hour every Friday is actually nice - ICs are generally nice and helpful, and actively help out on collaborative tasks - On-site gym is frankly amazing and comes with an outdoor pool - Product has come a long way and has a lot of value-add/potential - Depending on your role and vesting schedule, compensation can be very competitive

Cons

- HR and TA teams are either understaffed or flat-out incompetent and can be frustrating to work with. I do not feel protected or supported here. Hiring candidates is excruciatingly long partially because Tom implemented an awful WHO method for hiring. Tom also has to personally sign off on each new hire, which can take 1 week to 3 months - Promotions are not encouraged across the board, and depending on your team your manager could move the goalposts as you gain more responsibilities - 5 day on-site culture invites office politics and performative-based work styles. If you are not in the office 9-5 every day you could be reprimanded or perceived as a low performer - Engineering goes through frequent mini-reorganizations which contributes to the overall chaos. If you are doing software engineering at C3, expect to be working on a different product area as soon as you learn enough to be effective - C3 development teams as a whole go through large reorgs every 6-12 months. This is not a con by itself, but C3 will fire "low performers" with little warning with each reorg which can be jarring/frightening - Performance metrics boil down to Sprint completion or number of Github PRs, which is a horrible way of measuring productivity and output. - Documentation and QA teams seem to be chronically understaffed and overworked - Engineering teams have to move mountains to get specific versions of software out since we promise a sale to some customer. This is a recurring issue that happens frequently.

Pros

The merge was nice Food was decent The people and team (not the manager) were really nice Office was nice

Cons

I recently had the unfortunate opportunity to work at C3 AI in a position that was promised to be a Product Management role but turned out to be nothing more than an assistant position. My overall experience at the company was disheartening, frustrating, and unfulfilling, to say the least. From the very beginning, I was excited about joining C3 AI and contributing to their cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions. During the hiring process, I was explicitly told that I would be working in a Product Management capacity, a role that I had been striving for and was passionate about. However, upon joining the team, things took an unexpected turn. To my disappointment, I found myself assigned as an assistant to my manager, rather than being involved in any meaningful Product Management activities. My responsibilities mainly revolved around administrative tasks, scheduling meetings, and handling mundane errands. It was disheartening to see my skills and potential being underutilized in such a manner. What made matters even worse was the behavior of my manager. Despite my attempts to offer ideas and suggestions for improving processes and products, my manager showed little interest in hearing them. It felt like my opinions were dismissed without consideration, and any attempts to contribute were met with indifference. As a result, I felt undervalued and marginalized within the team. Throughout my time at C3 AI, I attempted to communicate my concerns with higher-ups and HR, hoping for a resolution to the situation. Unfortunately, my grievances were not taken seriously, and I was left feeling unsupported and ignored. It was clear that the company culture did not prioritize employee satisfaction or professional growth. To add to my disappointment, the work environment was lacking in team collaboration and transparency. Key decisions seemed to be made behind closed doors, leaving the rest of the team in the dark. This lack of transparency hindered progress and made it difficult to understand the company's overall vision and goals. In conclusion, my experience at C3 AI was nothing short of a nightmare. From the misrepresentation of the role during the hiring process to the lack of support and acknowledgment of my contributions, I can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences of my career. If you are considering a role at C3 AI, I would caution you to thoroughly investigate the position and the company culture before making a decision.
