For airplane lovers

Pros

If you are a big fan of airplanes, you will enjoy working there. I had the chance of working on various flight simulators and it is always a thrill to fly them to test your simulation software. You also get the opportunity to travel to customers' sites to complete the installation. There are various engineering departments, so, if you get bored, you can do a lateral transfer and work on something completely different.

Cons

As with most public companies lately, we work a bit understaffed and with the pressure to deliver. We have to learn a lot of technology mostly by ourselves but, I think it is the case for all software related jobs. It can take a while to adopt new software technologies at CAE.

Pros

Great innovative products and services. Good diversity of job opportunities. Excellent opportunities to work in other countries. Good and helpful co-workers. A lot of different cultures to work with.

Cons

The functional departments (HR and Finance) have too much influence which hinders the company's ability to provide good service to its clients. Repeated hiring freezes makes it difficult for the remaining employees to deliver to the clients on time. The CEO and upper management are making large bonuses on the backs of the employees by cutting salaries and benefits. Constant reorganizations causes chaos and prevents stable processes to be put in place.

- Great place to start for a new graduate - Many opportunities for advancement or change of career focus (you must initiate) - Excellent people (both skilled and personalities)

Cons

- Employee training has declined/non-existant in the last 5 years - Loyalty has disappeared (both to company and to employees) - Long-time employees work with a guillotine over their heads from what is now the common and regular practice of reorganization and budget cuts. Their higher salaries are what makes them vulnerable and their skills and expertise are not valued.
