Pros

The firm is at a very interesting place right now. Project work is best described as being at the intersection of management consulting and data analytics (data enhanced consulting?). This is basically uncharted territory for consulting firms and F500 companies. Clients are clamoring to do more work in this space, and opportunities within the firm have grown proportionally as a result. - Project work covers an unusually broad geographical span for a firm of this size. Client locations are split almost evenly across NYC, the continental US, and abroad. - The best of both worlds if you want the flexibility and excitement you get at a startup combined with the training and skill set of a management consulting firm. - There is a lot of responsibility available to take on and people find themselves ready to manage projects and teams long before they are expected/able to at other consulting firms. The partners recognize the need to decentralize certain decision making processes and delegate a significant amount of firm building responsibilities to the Consultants and Data Scientists. For example, the employees completely own the workplace development. The partners are hands off in this aspect and allow us to build a modern workspace that we would want to work in (open collaborative spaces, converting private offices into breakout rooms, adoption of new collaborative technologies, etc.).

Cons

This type of environment is not for everyone. People who particularly crave structured career growth and development would be very unhappy here. Stick with Deloitte if you want a step by step roadmap on how to advance from Consultant to Partner. There is no blueprint on how to succeed in this field, since it is something that is constantly evolving for our clients and the firm. The people who thrive in this environment are go-getters who enjoy the freedom to experiment with different approaches to develop best practices in managing companies through analytics.

Pros

The firm brings clients a completely new way of thinking about operational problems. The focus is primarily on leveraging data science to de-average the digital information generated by companies and their operations, and then digitally diagnosing opportunities for performance improvement. For me, being able to develop and deploy these techniques into a client setting is intellectually exciting. I am constantly learning new ways to think about and work with data, including improving my programing and analytical skills. In short, I learn something new every day and am having a fun time in the process. The culture of the firm has the buzz and healthy disheveledness of a tech startup, but a client book of business with fortune 500 firms like a blue-chip consulting house.

Cons

The work usually isn’t 9-5. In recent months the firm has really taken off, meaning that everyone is really pushing forward flat out to fill the incoming engagements. It can be stressful at times, but the work is very intellectually interesting.

Pros

CKM was my home for seven years. The company evolved significantly over time because leadership had the ambition and intelligence to identify where analytical software could transform operations. From the beginning of my tenure, CKM invested significant time and resources into training me as a full-stack Data Scientist. As the years went on, I was offered invaluable opportunities to lead projects with our clients, developing novel data analysis, dashboards, data pipelines and machine learning models. Eventually, CKM's flagship product became the main focus of my work, for which I and my colleagues had the independence to ship features that required solving challenging engineering problems and delivering value to our clients. I highly recommend CKM to prospective hires who enjoy being able to make a significant impact on the direction of a product, have relatively high autonomy and aspire to work on a technically strong and collaborative team. Additionally, the company is on a significant positive trajectory. As the product became more polished and tested against new customers in my last few years at the firm, the sales pipeline seemed to grow exponentially, which is a very good problem to have!

Cons

CKM is a small company, which, while allowing for more autonomy, means that some of the operational scaffolding that exists at medium-large size companies isn't necessarily in place yet.
