Pros

Very talented staff, state of the art technology. Large firm with lots of opportunities to specialize in many different areas. If you are just starting out you will get exposure to many different areas. Management is working on standardizing systems, procedures, policies, etc.

Cons

There have been quality, experienced employees let go to provide room for seniors and managers to move up. Some pre-merger partners were not offered partnership in the new firm. Many employees have been moved from full-time to seasonal or "as needed" and no longer have benefits. Many of the remaining full-time staff have been working more than their contracted hours without additional compensation. Some partners have asked part-time staff to work without recording their time, or approving time for training or travel.

Could be a lot better

Pros

Experience to work on various difference type of clients. CLA has a wide range of clients - small to large - with varying degrees of complexities. Staff will have the opportunity to build high level technical skills very quickly. Management is very encouraging and treats everyone with respect regardless of title.

Cons

CLA expects a lot out of it's people. You will be pushed and sometimes you will be pushed to your limits. Thus, the firm is more focused on profits than the development of their people. Staff compensation is very poor, especially when considering the demands they place on you. Significant over-time is a given, and often work/life balance does not exist - despite promoting that work/life balance is a high priority to the firm (this is not accurate). The demands they expect from staff are equivalent to Big 4, however, base pay is slightly below Big 4, and unlike Big 4, there are no bonuses of any kind (no signing, annual, or performance), and the 401(k) match is a joke, with horrible vesting constraints.

miserable experience

Pros

There are some very nice people, as well as some very competent and entrepreneurial partners. Firm leaders think they've got the best company on the planet and want everyone else to think so too. In fact, they are genuinely surprised to find that you don't just love the heck out of the place and take it super personally when people leave. Top and bottom line growth every year but mostly through an ambitious acquisition strategy and very, very tight pockets.

Cons

Cult-like, weird devotion to the CEO, Gordy Viere. No faith or investment in infrastructure and people. Very, very cheap. They want you to be an automaton and just do what they tell you rather than apply your talents to your work. Unsophisticated infratstucture and old-school good-ol-boy club environment.
