Just ok.

Pros

Somewhat friendly and relaxed atmosphere since the firm is fairly small in size. Achieving a decent work/life balance is not very difficult.

Cons

Quality of technical training is poor. Also, it is very difficult to get a variety of experiences because once you've become familiar with an area, they prefer to keep you there year after year instead of exposing you to different audit areas and audit engagements.

Don't even consider this firm

Pros

You can resign from this firm, which you should do as soon as you can after joining. If you are lucky, they will still have a little reputation left to help your resume.

Cons

The partners are only looking out for themselves. The "merger" with Larson Allen, it turned out to be a takeover. Clifton Gunderson partners were given a period to show improvement or to sell their business units (particularly PHBV). That translates into very low CPE costs (yes, no learning), promises of a career and future promotions that the partners know are false, and an extremely uncaring work environment. Nearly everyone here is looking elsewhere. It was not great before the merger but pretty tolerable. After the merger, things have been going downhill and fast. I am actively looking to get out of here - anyone reading this and knows a position for a government performance auditor/ healthcare opening, please post on this page so I can apply. This place is understaffed and undermanaged but overworked.

Could be a lot better

Pros

Experience to work on various difference type of clients. CLA has a wide range of clients - small to large - with varying degrees of complexities. Staff will have the opportunity to build high level technical skills very quickly. Management is very encouraging and treats everyone with respect regardless of title.

Cons

CLA expects a lot out of it's people. You will be pushed and sometimes you will be pushed to your limits. Thus, the firm is more focused on profits than the development of their people. Staff compensation is very poor, especially when considering the demands they place on you. Significant over-time is a given, and often work/life balance does not exist - despite promoting that work/life balance is a high priority to the firm (this is not accurate). The demands they expect from staff are equivalent to Big 4, however, base pay is slightly below Big 4, and unlike Big 4, there are no bonuses of any kind (no signing, annual, or performance), and the 401(k) match is a joke, with horrible vesting constraints.
