Thank you for your feedback and for your hard work. When we recruit talent to our teams we spend a lot of time going over the realities associated with the railroad operating 24/7/365 days a year, including how being on call can disrupt your family life and important events. CN recently upgraded its free interactive learning platform, which lets you personalize and create a learning journey based on your specific development needs, on a schedule that works for you. We also encourage you to talk about your career aspirations with your manager. We thank you for helping move our business and the economy forward. Please share your thoughts during our regular pulse surveys.

Pros

“Canadian experience” if your are looking to emigrate

Cons

Big teamster culture to the detriment of management functions, no up skilling for seniority keeps all the meaningful management talent at a lower pay grade. Even if someone’s resume has gone redundant and useless over 20 years at the same company, they’re treated like they’ve worked a yard job for that time. Diversity is in silos and a joke at not even 20% female management. Internship program is treated like amateur hour for HR in Montreal like we’re a play pen in the US. After spending and wasting double the time in various positions as an over qualified intern, they might(?) actually “get back to me” about a full time job after my last day. The summer interns are treated like a club house while winter and fall interns are treated like somewhere between the Revenant and the Shining teaching a Boomer excel tips or watching them play peek a boo with essential software packages they’re signing for a few million dollars in assets for. Unimpressed that south Asian HR in Canada wasted a breath dogging my supervisor’s Union mother as to whether she was my own mother in a back freight lot like they can’t spell “nepotism” or “career development.” Great to know I was on a hereditary gossip rag international before any career advancement was considered. Didn’t get a day of proper PTO for the 8 month term, no benefits for full time work.
