Pays well for a career that does not require post secondary schooling Personally the layoffs in the first few years are a pro for me, as I had time to travel. The trainers and management in this terminal genuinely care about your safety and wellbeing Many stunning views of the national park others do not have the opportunity to see.

Cons

The training can be long as there is much to master before qualifying. Expect lay-offs in the first year No choice in the matter of becoming a an engineer. As seniority grows and you work more often , finding a work life balance becomes more difficult. You will not have a regular sleep schedule The railroad never stops, you will be working in -40 to +40 weather conditions
