Thank you for your feedback and for your hard work. We pride ourselves on providing our team members with great pay. When we recruit talent to our teams we spend a lot of time going over the realities associated with the railroad operating 24/7/365 days a year, including how being on call can disrupt your family life and important events. We thank you for helping move our business and the economy forward. Please share your thoughts during our regular pulse surveys.

Unfortunately not what it once was

Pros

No education, easy work, potential early retirement

Cons

The pay used to be great. However unfortunately it's not what it used to be considering inflation. On top of trying to take as much time off away from us, CN has fought relentlessly to keep a bare standard raise of 2=3% per year even with inflation sky rocketing. In the past we worked long hard hours but were well compensated for our time as it was considered a well paying job. However now we are frequently working 10 hours each way/day and being held in the bunkhouses for 14+ hours. This results in an average of 80-100 hours at work each WEEK with only an average pay of about $30-$35 per hour. At the end of the year some of us make $130k+ but when you consider the time it takes out of our lives now, it is not worth it. Not to mention there is no overtime at CN, and we are paid a preset amount for each run whether it takes 8 hours or 16 hours. I wish I could tell you this is a great job, like it used to be, but as it is now I highly recommend staying away. Go find a $30 an hour job with some overtime pay. Your time will be worth more, and you'll spend more time at home.
