Still Crazy After All These Years

Pros

Depending on what part of the company you're in, or what management team you have, it can be a good place to work.

Cons

HR is screwing everyone as much as possible on benefits, reassessing people's titles and capping pay, onboarding and training are horrible, and the constant mis-management/ reorganization of practically every department makes it impossible to actually get anything done. Onshore? Offshore? Hire? Downsize? It depends on the day of the week. Senior management cannot or will not make a decision to save it's life, so middle managers run rampant and get rid of people they don't like or don't want to work with regardless of high performance scores, tenure, knowledge-base etc. Most are out to keep their own job at the expense of throwing everyone else off the cliff - can't trust many of your co-workers and the backstabbing/gossip is out of control.

Pros

- Relatively flexible working schedule - Decent benefits, outside of health care - Competitive pay - Commitment to employee training/education

Cons

- Incredibly poor morale - Senior Management has taken an adversarial position with their employees - Very poor job security - constant layoffs - Very political - you won't advance if you aren't in good with someone - Lot of cheap, counter-productive offshore IT resources which shifts the workload onto the already taxed stateside associates - Far too many middle managers - Increasingly oppressive policies

Pros

easy to answer the question 'why do you want to leave Conseco' on your next job interview without being seen pretentious. People constantly leave (sometimes 1 person every month on average), so even if your real reason is you are not happy with the pay, or you can't stand your manager, you can always give a convincing and descent answer about 'job security'

Cons

job security, you never know when the sh*t hits the fan, which could feel like any minute when you work there
