Pros

Challenging work and hard working employees. Many employee perks during normal work hours. Profit sharing contributes to 401K if corporate goals are met for the year.

Cons

Long work hours for SOME employees in lower management, with zero recognition or any form of real compensation. Some middle management in need of an additude adjustment. Upper management gets hig marks for "being in touch" but that's arguable. Products - and the number of them - have become increasingly complex, but existing staff is expected to asborb the load and knowledge leap. Employee perks are nice but only result in having to work longer at the end of the day. Salaries are not the best.

Pros

The company does try to "give back" to the employees with luncheons, bagels, picnic.

Cons

Management is very unprofessional and relaxed at best. There is no training what so ever. The motto is "figure it out" There is no team work. Advancement only if they like you. Very stressful environment.

This March, COCC launched its annual Employee Training Program. This program consists of a wide variety of resources to help employees succeed and excel in their roles or grow into new ones! These programs are available through open enrollment to ALL employees, with no cost to the employee. In 2018 we will offer employees over 115 onsite instructor-led programs. Topics range from communication skills to business skills to technical skills, as well as wellness and mindfulness modules and teambuilding classes that bring together employees from all levels of the company. The goal is to provide a diverse and flexible program of learning. In addition to onsite classes, we provide access to multiple eLearning licenses depending on the subject matter, including SANS, PluralSight, CBT Nuggets, New Horizons, and Learning Tree International. We provide a multitude of internally developed, custom workshops created and delivered by our subject matter experts focused on building product, service and technical knowledge. Employees have access to these programs beginning day one of their employment at COCC and are encouraged by their managers to attend. COCC also has an active and robust leadership and development program. Workshops range from coaching and performance management to inclusion and emotional intelligence. One-on-one coaching sessions with certified coaches are available for managers, supervisors, and team leads to encourage growth and build skill. Managers, supervisors, and team leads are required to attend this year’s Service Excellence track, which will cover what it means to be a manager at COCC. In addition, our Women in Leadership programs support the advancement of women into leadership positions across the enterprise. Our custom early leadership program encourages our newest leaders with interactive roundtables and customized micro learning tools. This year’s program will include over 50 of our new leaders, the vast majority of whom have been promoted internally.

Pros

Positive attitude and family atmosphere in company that tries to give a good work/life balance. Start with 20 PTO days which is great. Not in Hartford, lots of free parking, nice new building. Flexible schedule. Gym and subsidized meals on premises.

Cons

Salaries are below standard which used to be offset by benefits but now that has gone down hill as well. Insurance benefits are getting very expensive. Raises are abysmal. Initial training was sink or swim with not much documentation for backup. Management rules are different for each employee. Work at home is allowed for some 100% but others can even get a random day here and there which is unfair and causes resentment within departments. Lots of nepotism.

For a company its size, COCC offers very competitive benefit plans and generous subsidies to HSA accounts and health plan costs. Like most employers, we have had to move away from expensive co-pay plans to high deductible plans. However, we have increased the contribution amount to employee HSA accounts to help offset out-of-pocket expenses. We offer onsite counseling with insurance and financial planning professionals to help our employees most effectively plan for their financial well-being. Recently, we have been reviewing and formalizing all work from home agreements to ensure they are consistently applied and will continue to allow flexibility between managers and employees to accommodate extenuating circumstances.
