Pros

The people in the ops department are really good at what they do, and they are fun to be around. It is a great atmosphere to work, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. You know how sometimes you hate going to work, or dread waking up in the morning? Didn't happen to me there (most of the time), and while salaries are a bit low, the benefits are good, and the work culture is acceptable. I learned a lot there, and didn't increase my grey-hair ratio too much.

Cons

A small tech department relies on contractors, and working with offshore resources 12 hours off your time zone is rough. The on call rotation was generally fine, but towards the end of my tenure there got to the point where I was required to have my laptop, laptop charger, phone, phone charge, 4G hotspot, and hotspot charger with me at all times, and was expected to be within 4G coverage 24/7. There was no increase in my compensation for this change. I saw little to no opportunity for advancement because of the tight, lean, and streamlined department. It was good for working and learning, but not for moving up.
